Domain Names Australia

I received a snail mail from Domain Names Australia telling me that the domain www.askjapes.com, a domain I previously had registered for light entertainment but let expire, was available. The letter was in the form of an invoice, with a due date, an amount that I needed to pay and in the red hue that overdue invoices often come in.

This sort of marketing really pisses me off. The letter is deliberately constructed to deceive people into paying exhorbitant prices for something they don't want or need. I find it hard to believe this is legal, and fortunately auDA are chasing them up. Go get 'em!!

Latest "net.au" mail out by Domain Names Australia Pty Ltd

I see this sort of deception from companies more and more, and I find it quite surprising that there is so much dishonesty and trickery in the world particuarly from companies. I'm realising now (after 20+ years) that I have been naive, and that dishonesty, trickery, deception, bullying (and not just in school) is rife in our society, from companies and people.

Its disappointing.

Another example of shameful deception was a company that mailed people on share registries, offering money for their shares, which often was around half as much as they were going on the stockmarket. In the letters they only quoted a total price, and made it seem very urgent, and jazzed it up as a great deal, when in fact they were blatantly ripping off people who might get flustered and confused by such an offer. Grrrrrr........ I can't help feeling mad about that. I wish I remember the name of the company.

The Australian goverment has since made changes to the law, stating that such letters of offer must include a price per share. I suppose that is a step in the right direction, but I feel somehow such a deceitful company shouldn't get away with what they have done.

Anyway, thats enough bitching and moaning, hopefully not all my blogs are so......... negative. :)

Enjoy.
